Home of the Exeter Province of the RAOB
Bordered by Somerset, Dorset and the Duchy of Cornwall, Devon is Englands 3rd largest county with nearly 7,000 sq kilometers of land. Devon has 2 National Parks, Dartmoor and Exmoor, it's has small coastal towns and seaside resorts on the most picturesque coastlines, picture card villages with their thatched cottages and charming Inns, the industrial centers and the variety of ancient history. There's a lot to learn and see within the beautiful County of Devon. The Exeter Province of the RAOB is situatated in the South East of the delightful County of Devon. Below is a very brief discription of the towns that have Lodges, click on the town links to for more tourist information.
AXMINSTER
Axminster is a small, friendly market town in East
Devon before arriving into the County of Dorset. The name Axminster is
distinguished thoughout the world for its famous carpets invented by Thomas
Whitty in 1775. The Axminster carpet factory can be visited to watch the
manufacturing procees.

BEER
Sheltered by Beer Head, the main
street has a brook running down to the sea, the fisherman descended from the men
who once sailed with Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. Beer was home to
one of the Westcountry's most nortorious smugglers, Jack Rattenbury. Visit the
underground quarries that provided Beer Stone for the buildings, made famous by
the lacemakers who made Queen Victoria's wedding dress.

CULLOMPTON
The historic market town of
Cullompton is situated on the River Culm. The town still has working textile and
papers mills in the area, the textiles industry dates back to the 1700's.
Cullompton is the fist small market town entering Devon from the north, situated
just off Junction 28 of the M5.

EXETER
Over 2000 years old - Exeter is
the Regionals Capital of the Southwest, and is home to the magnificent Norman
Cathedral of St. Peters which can been seen from all over the city. As well as
Norman architecture Exeter has a host of Elizabethan, Goergian and Victorian
buildings within the ruins of the old Roman city walls. Exeter also boasts an
old Elizabethen port which used to transport wool and textiles from the local
area to ports afar. Exeter has devoeloped into a modern day city, which provides
the County of Devon with a central base for education, medicine, religion
commerce and culture.

HONITON
Honiton was once the main route
through Devon, but it now has a bypass the A303, Honiton has become a delightful
and charming maket town that boasts to have 2 street markets each week. Honiton
has more antiues shops than any other town in the the country.

OKEHAMPTON
Once the main route to Cornwall,
Okehampton suffered from traffic congestion, but now with the A30 bypass,
Okehampton can be appriciated as an old fashion moorland market town situated on
the edge of mysterious Dartmoor, which is steeped with great character myth and
history.

LYME REGIS
Situated in the Southwest of
Dorset, bordering the County of Devon, Lyme Regis is an historic unspoiled
seaside resort and fishing port with the famous Cobb Harbour. Surrounded by
beatiful coastlines and countryside, the area has now been awarded World
Heritage Site Status, famous for its geology and fossil finds.

SIDMOUTH
Sidmouth is a small quiet
coastal town and is the gateway to the Jurassic coastline. The town is protected
from the elements by beautiful red sandstone cliffs and an unusual peeble beach.
This fasinating coastal town steeped in history dating back as far as the 18th
Century, and has over 500 listed biuldings.

TIVERTON
Tiverton is a busy Mid-Devon
market town situated north of the Regional Capital City of Exeter on the A396.
Tiverton, standing on 2 rivers the Lowman and Exe, Tiverton once used these
sources for power for its woolen industry. Much of Tiverton now the centers on
the "John Heathcoat" lace factory, which has been in operation since 1816.
